Education: Dr. Robert Berry earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville before getting his Doctorate of
Medicine from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. During his internship years after medical school, Dr. Berry was selected as intern of the year. He was accepted into the Tulane ophthalmology residency program in New Orleans where he served as chief resident during his senior year. Dr. Berry then went on for an extra year studying corneal disease and corneal transplantation before entering private practice in Little Rock.
Professional: Before entering medical school, Dr. Berry worked 3 years as a chemical engineer in ALCOA’s chemical division.
Special Interests: Dr. Berry has a special interest in cataract and corneal surgery. He performed the first LASIK refractive surgery procedure in Arkansas as well as the first Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK) in the state. DSEK is a special new type of corneal transplant that has lately become the standard surgery for over half of all the corneal transplants done in the United States.
Personal Background: Dr. Berry is a native Arkansan, having grown up in central Arkansas and attending local public schools. He married his wife, Adele, in college, and she helped put him through medical school, residency, and fellowship while being a mother to three children, now all grown. He is rewarded with eight grandchildren in his home life and the satisfaction in his public life of helping thousands of Arkansans see better.
